Welcome, PPIA 2019!

The Goldman School welcomes 30 outstanding college juniors

For its 38th consecutive year, the Goldman School welcomes 30 outstanding college juniors from across the nation to the Public Policy International Affairs Junior Summer Institute, a seven-week, intensive immersion into the world of public policy.

The program, with its focus on empowering and better serving historically under-served communities, offers rigorous coursework designed to sharpen the analytic and quantitative skills vital to success at top-level graduate programs in public policy, international affairs, and law. The curriculum includes classes in policy analysis, economics, quantitative analysis, public policy and law; guest lecturers speaking on electoral politics, judicial policy, climate change policy; and visits to San Francisco and Oakland government offices.

"PPIA is a one-of-a-kind organization with a mission to ensure that we have a diverse set of people who are trained to bring their perspectives to the policy table," says Martha Chavez, Goldman's Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Programs and Dean of Students and PPIA alumna. "PPIA creates an amazing, close-knit community experience where students are immersed in economics courses, quantitative methods, and policy analysis. They're really given a taste of what graduate school is going to be like. It can be a life-changing experience."

Applications for the PPIA program for 2020 opens in November 2019.
