Class MPP 2021
Steven is a passionate activist and advocate committed to advancing equity and justice for underserved, underrepresented, and marginalized people and communities. Steven’s study of draconian criminal justice policies—along with the incarceration of close relatives and members of his community at large—has propelled and inspired him to take action, and has informed his policy interests around policing, mass incarceration, and prosecutorial accountability. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Steven spends his spare time hiking, cycling, building community, and going on outdoor and food adventures.
Before coming to the Goldman School, Steven worked at the ACLU of Northern California (NC), where he focused on major programs, trainings, political campaigns, and organizational support to advance civil rights and liberties and the programmatic goals of the ACLU-NC. Steven was also a 2017 Fellow with the New Leaders Council Oakland Chapter, a 2018 Fellow with Urban Habitat’s Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute, and served on the Alameda County Community Advisory Board and Proposition 47 Local Advisory Committee. In November 2018 Steven was appointed to the Alameda County Human Relations Commission.
